Here are a few of our most asked questions in regard to crushed shell:
Question 1.
How should I select the quantity of oyster shells they need?
This is our most asked question. The quantity needed depends on the size of oyster shell or clam shell that you want to use. For example, oyster shell flour is denser in comparison to a Tabby 1″ to 3″ shell. It takes 2,640 pounds of oyster shell flour to fill one cubic yard. But it takes 1,458 pounds of Tabby 1″ to 3″ shell to fill one cubic yard. So please contact us if you have questions and we’ll be happy to help.
Question 2.
Are the photos representative of the actual oyster shells that will be received?
Yes, the photos you see of our oyster and clam shell are of the exact shells we sell.
Each image provides an accurate depiction of the oyster or clam shells you’ll receive, ensuring there are no surprises. Rest assured, the authenticity of our visuals is paramount, and we take pride in showcasing what you’ll truly receive. However, samples are always best. Please be cautious of companies that do not provide samples. We always recommend ordering a Sample Pack just to ensure that the quality of shell is approved.
Question 3.
Can holes be drilled in the oyster shells, and if so, what is the additional cost?
Sadly, no. We deal primarily in bulk shells and drilling holes is a process we do not perform.
Question 4.
Will the oyster or clam shells be cleaned and sanitized before shipping?
Our claim to fame is that our shells are all cleaned prior to delivery. This means that all plant and meat debris is removed. There is no smell or pungent odor. Like with shell samples, be cautious of those who advertise ‘sterilized’ shell. Sterilization is the process of removing all contaminates from the shell. This is done by only a few companies on the planet and the cost high. If you are looking for shell for any outdoor based project such as a driveway or walkway. Consider a landscape grade shell which is clean but not sterile.
Question 5.
How do you ship bulk, wholesale shells?
We contract with a number of shipping companies like FedEx, ABF or T Force to deliver our material nationwide. We ship oyster and clam shells daily and can deliver to both residential and commercial locations.
Question 6.
How long does a bulk order of shell usually take?
2 weeks is the general lead time. Once an order is placed it takes 2-3 days for us to fill the order. The rest of the time is the order being in transit. For residential deliveries, the trucking company will call prior to delivery to schedule a delivery date.
Question 7.
What shipping method is used for the oyster shells?
We ship our oyster and clam shells in FIBC totes, also known as ‘super sacks’. These sacks can weigh between 1,500 to 2,000 pounds depending on the size of shell ordered.
Question 8.
How is shipping cost determined for the oyster shells?
Shipping rates are always determined by the total weight of the order, the distance between our location and yours as well as if your delivery location is deemed a residence or commercial location. Feel free to call us and we’ll be happy to send you a full quote that includes shipping.
