You’re looking down at your casing and suddenly see that some form of contamination has reached your substrate tray. Is the contamination in the casing layer or deeper within your substrate layer? Are you wondering how far the contamination has spread? And if so, where?

By using our substrate sampling tube, you can create viewable samples by simply twisting and pressing the tube directly into the infected area. The substrate sampling tube is also useful for finding areas that may be too moist or too dry in your casing. It will create a perfectly round hole in your casing which can easily be treated.  Using the sampling tube on spawn bags can also be performed.

Pro Tip: When checking the health of your mushroom spawn or substrate.  Be sure to properly dispose of your sample.  Discard it after use in a container or area where the contamination (if any) can not spread.  Even if everything looks healthy and fine, still remove the sample and wash the sampling tube with soap and water.
